Os Holy Modal Rounders eram um duo de música folk norte-americana a partir do Lower East Side de Nova York, que começou na década de 1960, composta por Peter Stampfel e Weber Steve. Sua mistura única de renascimento da música popular e psicodelia deu-lhes um culto seguinte, como de final dos anos 1960 para os anos 1970. Por um tempo a banda também contou com prolífico dramaturgo e famosos e ator, Sam Shepard.
Stampfel e Weber foram apresentados um ao outro pelo Greenwich Village figura, Antonia, que também escreveu ou co-escreveu muitas das suas canções. Os álbum Rounders "Primeiro, o Holy Modal Rounders, foi lançado em 1964, e sua versão de "Blues hesitação" contou com o primeiro uso do termo "psicodélico" (aqui pronunciado como "psico-delic") na música popular. Pouco depois de seu segundo álbum em 1965, o Holy Modal Rounders 2, juntaram-se Ed Sanders e Tuli Kupferberg em The Fugs por um tempo curto. Seus 1.965 gravações com os Fugs aparecer nos álbuns os Fugs Village, GUFs virgem, e GUFs 4, Pontuação Rounders. Weber nomeadamente escreveu o clássico cult "Boobs a Lot" para os Fugs, que os Rounders, mais tarde, gravaram-se LP Good Tastes is Timeless.
Depois de deixar os Fugs, os Rounders reformado com Sam Shepard e Crabtree Lee para gravar seu terceiro álbum (grito de guerra indiano), e para aparecer no jogo de Shepard Forense. O quarto álbum, registrados em 1968, incluídas "Song Bird". "Song Bird" foi essencialmente Ray Price "You Done Me Wrong", com letras alteradas e foi destaque em Rider de Dennis Hopper filme Easy. Em 1968 a banda se apresentou- se na série de TV Laugh-In, com participações da dupla old timers banco de parque-interpretada por Ruth Buzzi e Johnson Arte.
Em 1970, Robin Remailly e Dave Reisch se juntou à banda, que se mudou para Boston e Oregon, em seguida, acrescentando Ted Deane, Roger Norte, e Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Stampfel hospedado em Nova York, mas se tocar e gravar com a banda na ocasião.
